The College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (CAET), was established on 3rd October, 1970 at the university head quarter, Akola within the inception of Punjabrao Krishi Vidhyapeeth, Akola on 26th October 1969. In the year 1982, the Government of Maharashtra has approved the proposal and the university had setup the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering. The College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology was started with five Departments namely viz, Department of Farm Power Machinery (FMP), Department of Agricultural Process Engineering (APE), Department of Soil and Water Management (SWM), Department Unconventional Energy Sources and Electrical Engineering (UCES&EE) and Department of Farm Structures (FS). Further, the faculty was enhanced and fragmented in six departments in the years 1992. The additional department were created by bifurcating department of Soil and Water Management into two department namely as Soil and Water Conservation Engineering and Department of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering.
